Self-care: Positioned On Purpose

As we embrace the holidays and the end of another year, its easy to find ourselves in a state of review. Even if our self-love cups runneth over, the comments of well-meaning family & friends can cause us to question the lifestyles we’ve come to value. How do we stay the course?

Remember that you are positioned on purpose.

For each race, life assigns a different route. It may cause us to go faster than others in certain areas or take a road less traveled while our peers cruise past us to their next milestone. However, instead of relishing in the scenery, we succumb to the beliefs of spectators and obsess over how far we have to go, sprinting into things we weren’t ready for. Ideally, our loved ones only want what’s best for us, but we must learn to kindly reject the timelines itching to be placed on us. Rest assured that you are perfectly positioned for this moment and you will receive all you desire when you are equipped to handle it.

Audre Lorde once said “If I didn’t define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people’s fantasies of me and eaten alive.” How many pieces of us are missing? Of course, advocating for ourselves is easier said than done, but once we put encouraging ourselves into practice, we will realize that outside opinions are just passed down expectations. If you’re still single, choosing preparation over pressure is always the best choice. If you aren’t as far in your career as you want to be, consistency breaks resistance. If you don’t have children yet, your life is still full and complete. Don’t settle. In the grand scheme of things, you still win if you slow down. You only lose if you give up.

Before 2019 begins, I challenge you to think of ways to guard your heart from negativity. Create kind comebacks to uncomfortable questions that empower you and solidify your decision to put yourself first. Your joy depends on it.

Live loved.
