Kindness Makes Headlines In Wisdom.

Think back to your teenage years. A blessing and sometimes a curse. Years of fun and social awkwardness. They challenged us to decide if we were going to stand out or fade into the crowd. If we were lucky, there was someone waiting in the wings to help us decide. Michelle Icard, a parenting contributor for the Today show, made it her mission to ‘stand out’ while sitting in Starbucks. While overhearing three teenagers degrade a classmate, complain about previous gifts they'd received and boast about their popularity, Michelle debated if she should say anything. After much thought, she bought the girls drinks and presented them with a hand-written note as a "note of encouragement." Kindness pl

Kindness Makes Headlines In Sports.

For devoted sports fans, "trash talk" is a common way to express devotion to one’s team. It shows their personal connection to the team and their investment in the game; but for an athlete's family, it may cause more harm than good. Anna Horford, sister of Boston Celtics Center Al Horford, initiated a "twitter war" during the first half of the Celtics vs. Cavaliers playoff game Friday night. Frustrated with the game’s events, she tweeted "Lebron got to literally handpick his team....this is the result." Tons of negative comments and memes followed the tweet, making an already bad night even worse after the Celtics’ 44 point loss. Through this instance, an opportunity for kindness presents

Kindness Makes Headlines In Beauty and Lifestyle.

In honor of Mother’s Day, Beauty and Lifestyle magazine, Allure, asked celebs to reveal their mother’s best beauty tips. Some celebs like actress/dancer Jenna Dewan Tatum, stuck to physical beauty saying her mother told her “you can never have enough blush on, and always leave the house with something on your lips, whether it is lip balm or lip gloss." However, others like trainer Jillian Michaels offered inner beauty tips stating, "one of the best pieces of advice from my mom was to not be afraid to admit when you are wrong. Instead of hiding behind a mistake, she taught me to make it a sign of strength, and to truly grow and progress from it. I’ve used this advice throughout my life and my

"To those..." Happy Mother's Day.

May we collectively lift our glasses and prayers... To those who gave birth this year to their first child—we celebrate with you. To those who lost a child this year—we mourn with you. To those who are in the trenches with little ones every day and wear the badge of food stains—we appreciate you. To those who experienced loss through miscarriage, failed adoptions or running away—we mourn with you. To those who walk the hard path of infertility, fraught with pokes, prods, tears and disappointment—we walk with you. Forgive us when we say foolish things. We don’t mean to make things harder. To those who are foster moms, mentor moms and spiritual moms—we need you. To those who have warm and clos

Celebrate Your Circle.

Turn on the news. What do you see? Politics, celebrities, award shows, reality tv, etc. Now, how much attention do you give to those items? Be honest. We could write you a long-winded blog post about what it means to be a friend however, I think we all know. We just need to be reminded. Habits are hard to break, so keep the following in mind and let's get started on forming some new ones. If you consider yourself a friend to someone or someone else considers him/herself a friend to you, sit down and understand what that means. A friendship means you are living life together. We only have this one life, leave an impact---make it count. Add to that relationship. Feed that relationship. As you

Kindness Makes Headlines In Entertainment.

Nicki Minaj created an amazing headline Saturday night by offering to pay for her fans college expenses. After sending an initial tweet telling fans from any country to post themselves singing her new single, "Regret In Your Tears" on the Musically app for a chance to hang out with her, a fan challenged her to pay for their tuition. Rising to the occasion, she responded from her personal account tweeting, "Show me straight As that I can verify w/ur school and I'll pay it. Who wants to join THAT contest? Dead serious. Shld I set it up?" And indeed she did! That day, Ms. Minaj helped over 15 students by paying for their tuition, books and student loans. Celebrities have the fate of a generatio

Goody Two-Shoes.

The fable tells of Goody Two-Shoes, the nickname of a poor orphan girl named Margery Meanwell, who goes through life with only one shoe. When a rich gentleman gives her a complete pair, she is so happy that she tells everyone she has "two shoes". Later, Margery becomes a teacher and marries a rich widower. Margery’s wealth enables her to help the poor just as she herself had been helped. She remains adamant that money is to be used for the good of others less fortunate than oneself, not only for personal benefit. You may be asking yourself, 'how does this relate to KAE?' Here's how: KAE was created as a reminder. Not simply a reminder for others but a reminder for ourselves as well. A remind

Kindness Makes Headlines.

Kindness is a game changer. It empowers us, lives around us and sometimes reminds us of how much we're lacking. I was captivated by this story from USA Today: "A beer in one hand, and a gun in the other: woman killed as man shoots up San Diego Apartment Complex." This headline represents the brokenness of our society. The songs of our valued identities play to deaf ears so much so that they're now broken, letting out a faint note every so often as a reminder. Although being a Good Samaritan isn't always the most appealing choice, common courtesy is always the best choice. All it takes is for one person to decide the lives of others are just as valuable as their own, join with like-minded p
