Kindness Makes Headlines.

Kindness is a game changer. It empowers us, lives around us and sometimes reminds us of how much we're lacking. I was captivated by this story from USA Today: "A beer in one hand, and a gun in the other: woman killed as man shoots up San Diego Apartment Complex." This headline represents the brokenness of our society. The songs of our valued identities play to deaf ears so much so that they're now broken, letting out a faint note every so often as a reminder.

Although being a Good Samaritan isn't always the most appealing choice, common courtesy is always the best choice. All it takes is for one person to decide the lives of others are just as valuable as their own, join with like-minded people, impact circles of influence and ultimately change the world. Later on in the article, it was revealed that the suspect, a white male, only shot people of color: 4 black women, 2 black males and 1 Latino (the gender of the Latino person wasn't specified). Though it may have been a reach in that moment, I can't help but wonder what the result would have been if someone of the same race spotted the individual, his intentions, his pattern, and used that to dissolve his guard and talk him down. I have reason to believe that this would change the narrative of a story all together.

With "A beer in one hand, and a gun on the floor", the respect for human lives could have been amplified, not lessened because of fear. It is at these precise moments where kindness matters. Where KAE needs to live. Not only when we post about kindness or make videos about kindness. It's when we display kindness with the boldness and courage needed.

Readers, you have the opportunity to change this world. The power that you have to heal someone's pain just by a simple hello or wave holds more proof that God flows through all of us than you'll ever know. Take advantage of kindness. Use kindness. Change our world with kindness.

Along with a few suggestions below, remember to exercise kindness at home first. Be kind to your siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbors, etc. KAE begins at home.

Live loved.
